Get the Lead Out
My blog's been asleep for the past few weeks because we moved across the country! In a few weeks we packed, sold or dumped the entire contents of NYC apartment, loaded our Toyota Tercel and drove it 4,000 miles through mountains, forest, and desert. The trip was great--much better than the one three years ago--but we did get snowed on while trying to camp near Stanley, Idaho.
We've been taking advantage of the open space on the West Coast, hiking in the redwoods and jogging along the Aptos shoreline. I hope to get out to the Pinnacles soon to try and spot the elusive California condor. I wrote another piece about these amazing birds in the latest issue of Sierra. Environmentalists are trying to get a law passed that would ban hunters from pumping lead ammuniton into condor habitats, since the birds eat the fragments and become deathly ill. Copper bullets are much less toxic and just as effective.
Stay tuned for updates.
